Dear Parents / Caregivers

This leaflet aims to give you guidance on supporting your child’s learning through homework.

Homework is anything that students do outside the normal school day that contributes to their learning
, in re- sponseresponse to guidance from school. Homework encompasses a whole variety of activities instigated by teachers and parents to support student learning; it does not just mean formal written exercises carried out by students without any help from adults.

Homework provides you with an opportunity to become involved in your child’s learning and to develop important home/school links. One of the key aims of IEA is to help students acquire the skills and self-motivation that will help them become
life-longlifelong, independent learners. Homework is one of many tools which can assist students in developing the skills and attitudes required for successful learning.

For younger students, the key purpose of homework is to provide the opportunity for you to become actively

involved in your child’s learning. It is the involvement of you as a parent / caregiver, in joint activities, which is most valuable in promoting learning. For younger students in Prep – Grade 2, homework activities are therefore predominantly informal.
