Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome, with a high frequency worldwide and a significant burden on health systems. In recent years, in health-advanced countries, health care structures have been developed for patients with HF under nursing leadership, with the aim of more effective and efficient management of the disease.
Aim: To investigate the impact of health care structures under nursing leadership on the management of patients with HF.
Material and Method: The international bibliography search, which took place from February to May 2020, was performed on the Pubmed and Cinahl databases, using the following keywords: “Heart failure”, “nurse-led clinics”, “Nurse-led heart failure clinic”, and “Nurse managed heart failure clinic”. The selection criteria for the article search were a) studies in humans, b) published studies in English, c) studies in adults (age> 18 years), d) randomized studies.
Results: A search of the international literature found a total of 90 studies, of which 11 were selected to be included in the systematic review. The analysis of the studies found that the management of patients with HF in nursing-led health care structures has a positive effect on improving disease management and treatment, and the quality of life of these patients, as well as reducing the number of hospital re-admissions and mortality.
Conclusions: The follow-up of patients with HF in structures under nursing leadership contributes positively to the management of the disease and is considered imperative to the need to create such structures, both in Greece and internationally.
