• Guinea literacy rates show a considerable gap between men (43%) and women (22%). Only 30% of girls complete primary school, and 16% make it to high school compared to 28% for boys. These indicators demonstrate how challenging it is to develop and nurture female talent and potential in the country.
• Considering the
countrycountry's context, female talent acquisition should always be combined with retention, and one cannot be handled alone. In the past 10 months, two female staff left to join UNICEF and ONUSIDA, for better contract modalities, and another female staff took the package for early retirement.
• Guinea CO is underfunded.
ifIf the Country office continues to face such challenges, it will be difficult to reach the target in 2021. This Smallsmall CO needs core funding, at least to keep female talent; by givingoffering them better contract modalities would help.
• Announcement of 4• 4 positions were announced in December 2020. Out of these four (4) positions, we anticipate that female staff will fill at least two (2) positions.
• 18 women
were recruited in 2020.
• In 2021, we plan to hire 4 additional
femalefemales to replace 4 UNVs out of 5, and work on staff retention. To reach this objective, the CO will continue its head-hunting approach to ensure that female candidates in the diaspora can undergo testing even when there is no UN office in their country of residence. Guinea CO will also pursue and sustain partnershippartnerships with local universities for graduate girls’ elites, and expand to Field Offices.
