The cause of mental disorderdisorders has been studied from biological, supernatural and psychological perspectiveperspectives throughout the history. Ancient records show that mental illness is viewed through different perceptions across different cultures and parts of the world. For instance, in ancient India, scriptures such as Mahabharata and Ramayana are the first to engage with ideas such as depression or anxiety on the imaginary level (Rosmarin, Koenig, 1998). On the other hand, from scientifical perspectivesa scientific perspective, Indian ancient medicine Ayuveda (knowledge of life) sees illness as an imbalance between three fluids of the body suggesting that an unsuitable diet could upset the body and Gods, resulting in uncontrolled mental distress, mental shock, and excessive joy and fear. Herbs, religious rituals, praysprayers, ointments and moral and emotional encouragement were the main remedies used against mental and body illnesses (Bhugra, Dinesh, 1992). Additionally, Mesopotamia findsfound mental illness as a cause ofto be caused by wrong diets with religious connotations (Black, Green, 1992). Mesopotamia and Egypt “payri” histories dated sinceback to 1900 B.C. talk about a woman suffering from a wandering uterus resulting in mental illness, later named later “hysteria” by Greeks. As a form of treatment, strong-smelling somatogenic remedies of strong smelling againstfor the uterus were adopted by Greeks and Egyptians.
