“‘We hunt and feast and have fun. If you want to join my tribe come and see us.’” (Golding 140). The kids in Lord of the Flies succumb to their desires, those being “‘ [. . .] feast and have fun.’” Jack is a character that is portrayed as the embodiment of human desires, he wants to hunt, have fun, and not care about anyone else, he is the innate evil in humans. The boys joining Jack’s tribe exemplifies Ralph’s failure as a leader, because, as Thomas Hobbes stated, the leader of the people needs to lead others away from their desires. Ralph was unable to stop Jack from leading the kids down the wrong path, which resulted in a dictatorship enforced by fear. With Jack as the absolute authority, all forms of morality or justice are thrown aside and only the boy’sboys' true savage desires were released, which in the end allowed them to murder Piggy with no sense of wrongdoing.
