In the beginning, Daisy Daisy appears asto be a typical caring and kind character. But as we go on throughout the novel, and we begin to learn more and more about her, we eventually start seeing a side of her that is more carefree and selfish. This is evident as she tells Tom to his face about how she loves Gatsby. “ she“She told him she loved him, and Tom Buchanan saw. He was astounded. His mouth opens a little, and he looked at Gatsby. And then back at Daisy as if he recognized her as someone shehe knew a long time ago." Yet, she would immediately switch sides and stay with Tom after Gatsby’s outburst. It comes as an irony that Daisy is the one who ends up murdering Myrtle. She ends up Scott freescot-free, as Gatsby atones for a crime he did not commit. After Gatsby is then killed, just like her husband, she does not attend his funeral. Her blinding moralblind conviction that she must be with someone of her own economic status is what leads her to such a careless lifestyle. She originally states how she loves Gatsby, yet marriedmarries Tom for his economic status, and after realizing that Gatsby wasn’t who he acclaimedclaimed to changebe, changes her mind and stays with Tom. She is also is reluctant to tarnish her image through owning up to the murder of Myrtle and an infatuated yet clueless Gatsby selflessly claimclaims the murder as his own. She does nothing but inadvertently causescause the deathdeaths of three people withwithout so much as to pay her respectrespects.
