Figure 1 shows the experimental setup of laminar burning velocity measurements. There are four subsystems in the diagram: mixture preparation systems, combustion reaction environment, optical apparatus, and electrical systems. Mixture preparation systems, which consists of the mixing tank for creating a synthetic air from reactant tanks, liquid fuel injection, capacitance manometers, and vacuum pump. Within the mixture preparation system, two capacitance manometers are utilized on the manifold, which connects the mixing tank, injection port, reactant tanks, and vacuum pump to the combustion chamber. Two manometers measure accuracy at both high range and low range pressures. Within use, the high range manometer yields information pertaining to initial conditions of combustion, and the other enables quantification of vacuum pressure and partial pressure of vaporized liquid fuels. Combustion reaction environment consists of the temperature controlled spherical combustion chamber, a furnace to control combustion chamber, K-type thermocouples to measure combustion chamber, and dynamic pressure instrument. The optical apparatus is for capturing flame propagation. Electrical systems include an ignition system, high speed DAQ, and trigger system for data acquisition.
