• An example of an experience with a health care provider where my health locus of control was demonstrated washappened when I went to my gynecologist. I had just found out byfrom her that I gothave a couple of cysts in my ovaries, which had caused me pain for many months. It was a sharp, dull pain that comes and goes during menstrual periods. My gynecologist suggested to getgetting it removed with surgery, so the pain could go away instantly. She also suggested birth control, but she mostly suggested to getthat I surgically removed it. This is when my locus of control took over, and I disagreed with getting it surgically removed. I went on withdecided to take the medication that is required for me to take it for 3 months. I told her that I did not want to be inon bed rest and that maybe the medication would help with my cyst and pain. Months later I came back for a check-up and my right cyst was gone from my ovaries. The birth control had helped, so I told my doctor that I should keep taking the medication because it was helping me cure the cyst.
