I started working at the age of eighteen and had the opportunityies tof being exposed to diverse industries that required different types of skill sets to perform each task. During my first job (at Barnes and Nobles Bookstore), I discovered that I possessed the trait/ characteristic of self-monitoring,. pPicking up on cues and changdapting my behavior depending ton the situation came naturally to me (adaptation). It was easy for me to comply and perform every request made by my managers, to conform to the way everyone did things around the bookstore, and to get along with my coworkers. At times, I would disagree with what my managers/ or coworkers wanted me to do, but I would always put a smile on my face and do as I was told. Looking back, I realize now, that the reason why I would obey without debating was because I didn’t see myself in that industry forever, and I was not passionate about the job (due to a lack of internal/ and external motivation). I knew that those positions would be very temporalry .and that eventually, I would leave,. sSo, I felt that there was no need ftor contributinge ideas or opinions.
