The World Resources Institute states that 1.3 billion tons of food wasted every year worldwide is equal to 45 trillion gallons of water. According to Pope Francis, "stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry.," is what is happening when we waste food. Worldwide, people are wasting food and not disposing of it in the proper places. It ends up in landfills, which keeps the water locked in; consequently, it just evaporates from there and is of no use. This, in turn, turns it into greenhouse gas emissions, which creates global warming.
Problems that can become frofm wasted food are environmental, global warming, drought, torrential rains, wasted water, not enough clean water for agriculture, crops, socioeconomic problems, bugs, and diseases. "A pound of apples, on average, contains 81 percent water and 766 calories. Fruits and vegetables are the largest sources of loss and waste on a weight basis -, in part, because they contain more water than other foods.," claims WRI.
