After contact with the Spanish, many strong political changes occurred to their empire. The change in leadership, law making, and social structure saw the entire political landscape change satisfactorily. One chadifferengce included the change in leadership between Mochtezuma, who ruled the Aztec eEmpire between 1502 and 1520, to Cortes, who became the leader of New Spain in 1521 andto 1524. The people who lived under the rule of Moctezuma became subjects of the new Spanish eEmpire. On the ruins and rubble of Tenochtitlan, Cortes built a new capital called Mexico City. It was a European-style city, designed to become the colonial capital of the new Spanish eEmpire. Before the Spanish invasion, the king controlled Aztec society through laws,; all laws, courts, and punishments were focused on by the king. After the invasion, the king laost all control over the Aztec eEmpire, as Cortes and the Spanish colonists took over. The social structure of the Aztec's society was also eaffected after the Spanish invasion. The Spanish colonist became wealthy and privileged and took control of education, politics, religion, and the army.
