Bernie Sanders was scheduled to spgiveak two speeches in Seattle, Washington, Seattle, but the first speech was shut down after the protestors from a local Black Lives Matter activists took over the stage. Protestors asked for a period of silence to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Michael bBrown, who was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Therefore, Sanders was unable to speak at Seattle, Washington (The Washington Post).
Sanders' campaign underestimated communities of color, their issues, and the social injustice, which resultsed in interruption of his rally at Seattle, Washington. After his rally shut down atin Seattle, he hired an African-American lady as his campaign manager. Hiring an African-American woman as his campaign manager was hisa smart decision that helped him in the rest of his rallies in California, and Portland.
Bernie Sanders spoke inat the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and 27,000 people showed up inat the event. This time, he spoke on the issues such as criminal justice reform, income inequality, federal minimum wage, university tuition, and immigration. His strong message made the rally successful,. “wWe need an economy that works for all people”. He claimed that no body would fight harder to end institutional racism than he. In addition, he also promised illegal immigrants who are working illegally to be brinought out of the shadows.
His campaign was successful at Los Angeles because he spoke on the issue that needs to be addressed in the region., Bbecause California is the place where we find a lot of illegal immigrants, wages inequality, and a great need for criminal justice reforms. Overall, he did great in Los Angeles, which is possibly the largest crowd in this election cycle.
David Reynolds’, in the article, “Progressive Challenges,” talks about hopeful and encouraging news that progressive activities isare not only growing electorally, but part of a broad social movements. He explains the opposite strategy used by parties such as Greens, Labor party, and the coalition of labor-community in New England. However, he also showcases successful issue campaigns around living wages, income tax, and sustainable development. In addition, he mentions that the danger of factionalism and internal controversy which haves touched Green party. However, he further states successful groups have united people, buildt grassroots activism, and staffing, but does not require focusing on raising money.
David Reynolds’ provides an insightful suggestion to run any political campaign. He touches on most of the contemporary social issues twhatere our society needs immediate attention. He focuses on building grassroots movements; ask for every citizen’s involvements in the election. In his article, he claimed that Sanders had a long history of supporting progressive movements. His article contained really useful information regarding running a political campaign.
