Lincoln Steffens was a New York reporter, who published multiple articles in McClure’s, called "Tweed Days in St. Louis." Steffens later published a book named, “The Shame of the Cities.” Steffens was born on April 6, 1866, in San Francisco. He was the first born, with 3 other sisters coming after him. He was a journalist at the New York Evening Post. Then, later on, he became an editor of the McClure magazine, where he became a part of a celebrated muckraking trio, with Ida Tarbell and Ray Stannard Baker. Then, two of his articles were published, “The Shame in the Cities” (1904), and “The Struggle for Self-Government (1906). In 1905, he also wrote "The Traitor State," which criticized New Jersey for patronizing incorporation. During this time zone, the Iindustrialization period mcadused isses to the world that affected the US. The most effective problems were,: Uurbanization, Iimmigration, Bbad working conditions, Ppolitical Ccorruption, Iinequality, and pollution/environmental impacts. Lincoln wanted to solve the Ppolitical corruption.
