Today, I joined my husband in attending the funeral of Sgt. Michael Smith. As you all know, he was killed along with 4four others last week, in what can only be described as brutal and senseless murders. This is the first police funeral I hadve ever attended and. I feel honored that I was able to be a part of it, but also sad, because I know it won't be the last. It was moving to say the least, and watching the men and women in uniform from ALL over the U.S. stand together and salute their fallen brother, was beyond powerful. A feeling I can't really describe radiated through the air. I didn't take many photos, but I wanted a photo of us from today to show Jesus in his Class A uniform. He was so handsome in his starched wool/polyester uniform that shouldn't be worn in 100 degree weather or, oever, really ever, and I don't know how the bad guy was ever caught when they had to wear those all the time. I'm torn between overwhelming pride to be his wife, knowing what he does every day to serve and protect this great city, and yet, after today, I want to be selfish and tell him to never put it back on again. Anyone who knows me knows that I would never have imagined myself married to an officer, but I can't imagine my life without him. Most of you also know that since just a few months into our marriage, we have been dealt many trials and tribulations, and I would do it all over again for him. Today's funeral had many laughs and tears. My heart goes out to the families of these officers who are struggling with a pain I can't imagine. I hope, though, that they find some comfort in the support of the police officers that came, and the city of Dallas that has amazingly come together for these men and their families.
